THE FOUNDER

Hi I'm John. Music has been a huge part of my life ever since I can remember.

 

I was fortunate enough to have older brothers that introduced me to the likes of Bowie and Queen before I could even walk. Over the years my tastes have expanded and I am still searching for new and exciting music across all genres.

I did work experience in a local independent record store in Plymouth, 1987. I loved it. They gave me a Saturday job. I started working for HMV in 1991, a job that I continued with for 28 years. Again, I loved it. My last role was store manager of HMV in Bradford. I left on good terms, winning my grades “Store Manager of the Year”.

​

My passion has always been about the music and the people. I have always been a believer in following your dreams and doing what you love.

​

I left HMV to start my own independent record store – the name of the record shop that I did work experience in? Rival Records.
